For the past few months, R. Kelly's latest single/soap opera drama has been the topic of conversations nationwide. "Trapped in the Closet," a controversial five-part musical drama, has hooked fans, pushing Kelly's TP.3 Reloaded album to #1 on the charts in its first week of sales. Kelly has also co-directed and starred in a 16 minute film version of all five chapters which can be found on a limited edition CD/DVD combo of the LP. As reported yesterday, Kelly has also completed music production on parts 6-10 and is finishing up filming projects for the latest chapters. According to Soundscan, TP:3 Reloaded has well surpassed its competitors, selling an amazing 491,000 copies this week. Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot's The Cookbook follows in second place, selling 176,000 units in its first week. Coldplay, still going strong, for the second week straight finishes third on the charts with retail sales of nearly 127,000, pushing X&Y's to sales of over 1.5 million after five weeks on the stands.
Mariah Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi comes in at #4 with more than 115,000 scanned, while the Ying Yang Twins bump from #2 to #5 with second weeks sales of just over 100,000 copies for United State of Atlanta.
Still in the top 10 are George Strait, Black Eyed Peas, newcomer Louisiana rapper Webbie, Foo Fighters and Gwen Stefani.
