With all the speculation about who will be replacing Howard Stern on his various stations, The King Of All Media addressed one of them this morning when he had Loveline co-host Adam Carolla on his show. Stern originally dropped the news that Carolla would be taking over for him in Los Angeles and on a few other west coast stations during his July 18 mocking of the report that David Lee Roth would be taking over in New York.
When Stern asked if the sources whispering this information to him were telling the truth, Carolla replied, "Tentatively, that sounds about right." He added later, "I'm finishing Loveline and moving to morning radio." Carolla also said that "nothing has been signed" and he is "not anxious to start" his transition to morning radio, as he has a variety of projects in the works.
In his negotiations, Carolla said that Infinity execs have been telling him they intend to keep Stern through the end of his contract. Also in his discussions about the transition to morning radio, Carolla sounds like he might be looking to change the concept of how morning programming is produced, suggesting he could do the show in pre-produced segments and not live.
When FMQB asked about the the validity of the Carolla-Stern conversation, Infinity VP of Communications Karen Mateo recited what is becoming a standard line as the Stern Show winds down and the rumors heat up that there was not an announcement pending.
