Lock up your closets this Sunday night: R. Kelly is the newest performer to join the MTV Video Music Awards lineup. The controversial R&B superstar joins the likes of Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, Coldplay, Ludacris, Shakira, Green Day, Kelly Clarkson and The Killers this Sunday night on MTV. Rihanna, Fall Out Boy and the trio of Mike Jones, Paul Wall and Slim Thug will perform on the pre-show.Robert Moog, pioneer of the Moog synthesizer that bears his name, passed away over the weekend at the age of 71. Countless bands have used Moog's innovative keyboards over the years, which can be heard in the works of everyone from The Beatles to Nine Inch Nails. In the '90s, a pair of albums were released under the name The Moog Cookbook, covering popular songs entirely on Moog synthesizers.
My Chemical Romance have unveiled the complete itinerary for their upcoming headlining tour of North America. The New Jersey natives will play the first of 27 shows on September 15 in Columbus, OH. The tour wraps just over a month later on October 21 in Baltimore. Alkaline Trio and Reggie And The Full Effect will open all dates.
The Deftones will release B-Sides & Rarities on October 4. The CD/DVD set lives up to its name, compiling a number of cover songs (including tunes by Sade, The Smiths, Duran Duran and Lynyrd Skynyrd) and acoustic versions of Deftones hits. The DVD will include all of the band's music videos, along with two new live clips.
Jimi Hendrix's legendary Woodstock performance will be released in its entirety for the first time ever. The DVD Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock (Deluxe Edition) will be released on September 13. The two-disc set contains Hendrix's entire set from August 18, 1969.
MTV.com reports that Hot Hot Heat will open a handful of dates on this fall's Foo Fighters/Weezer tour. The band says they are writing new material on the road, and plan to shoot a video for the third single off Elevator, "You Owe Me An IOU."
Jokesters the Bloodhound Gang have announced a number of U.S. tour dates in support of their upcoming album, Hefty Fine. After playing WXDX/Pittsburgh's X-Fest on September 9 and a show in Norfolk, VA the next day, the Gang will be on the road throughout October, starting in Ft. Worth, TX on October 5. Dates are currently scheduled up to October 28 in Boston, according to their Web site. They will then spend their November extensively touring overseas.
Less Than Jake will play a short West Coast tour this fall as they gear up to record their next studio album, set for release sometime in 2006.
