Hilary Duff

Newly-brunette Hilary Duff finds her latest release, the compilation Most Wanted, at the top of the Billboard/Soundscan charts this week. It is Duff's first #1 album. Country singer Brad Paisley debuts at #2 with Time Well Wasted. Mariah Carey's unstoppable The Emancipation Of Mimi is at #3. 311's newest album, Don't Tread On Me, debuts at #5.

More legal fun awaits Axl Rose, as his ex-Guns N' Roses bandmates Slash and Duff McKagan have filed a lawsuit claiming they have been cut out of their publishing royalties in a new deal Rose signed without their approval. In the suit, the now-Velvet Revolver members say that "Suffering an apparent attack of arrogance and ego ... Rose recently decided that he is no longer willing to acknowledge the contributions of his former partners and bandmates in having created some of rock's greatest hits." Though Rose's new publishing deal with Sanctuary was publicly reported, Slash and McKagan said they were unaware of the deal until they didn't get their expected royalty checks for the first quarter of the year.

Hoobastank is aiming for a November release for the follow-up to their hit album The Reason. The California band wrote much of their new material while on the road opening for Velvet Revolver. When not on tour, Hoobastank have been recording the album in Los Angeles with producer Howard Benson (P.O.D., My Chemical Romance). Singer Doug Robb told Rolling Stone the band has 16 finished songs. Of the new material, Robb says, "There are definitely some politically inspired songs here. I think the general theme is taking control of your own life, knowing what your life is about, knowing it's all in your hands, and if you want something you've got to go and get it."

More dates have been added to this fall's Foo Fighters/Weezer co-headlining tour. The Foos' newsletter reveals six new dates in Champaign, IL; Detroit; Cleveland; Washington, DC; East Rutherford, NJ and Oakland, CA in October. The Foos have also added a second London date in Earl's Court on December 18. As reported yesterday, Hot Hot Heat will be opening a handful of the Foos/Weezer shows.

Our Lady Peace has entered the podcasting world, with their "OLPod" now available on their Web site, OurLadyPeace.com. In each weekly OLPod, the band members will answer questions submitted by fans. Our Lady Peace's new album, Healthy In Paranoid Times, arrives in stores next Tuesday, August 30. The band has also mapped out a North American tour, with dates currently scheduled up to October 2 in Chicago.

Alicia Keys' Unplugged album will be released on October 11. According to MTV.com, the set features cameos from Common, Mos Def and Adam Levine of Maroon 5. The first single, "Unbreakable," will arrive at radio in mid-September.

Toronto area Default fans have the opportunity to appear in the video for the band's new video for "Count On Me." The video shoot will take place on August 30 in Toronto, and extras must be between 18-25 years old. Fans must email default@TVTrecords.com with their name, age, phone number and a recent photo if possible. More details can be found here.

Cameron Crowe always makes sure to pay extra attention to the soundtracks to his films (Almost Famous and Singles, to name two). The soundtrack to his upcoming Elizabethtown will feature exclusive, new tracks from Tom Petty and Lindsey Buckingham, as well as a new tune from My Morning Jacket, who have a cameo appearance in the film. The soundtrack will also feature songs from Elton John, Ryan Adams and Crowe's wife, Nancy Wilson of Heart.
