Quick Hits: The Game, 3 Doors Down, Bon Jovi, U2, CBGB, Tom Waits, Lil' Kim, 'NSYNC, Veruca Salt, Public Enemy
September 16, 2005

Rapper The Game has a bit of a public relations problem with his upcoming line of sneakers, since they are known as "the Hurricane." The Los Angeles Times reports The Game will not be changing the name of the sneakers, which have been in development for months. Instead, some proceeds from the sales will be donated to charity and the sneakers' name will be downplayed in ads.

3 Doors Down

3 Doors Down delivered over $100,000 worth of products from Sam's Club to hurricane-damaged communities in their home state of Mississippi. The band travelled along with a caravan, visiting three cities throughout the day on Wednesday. 3 Doors Down kick off their next leg of touring on October 1 in Selma, TX.

Clear Channel is giving Bon Jovi fans a "Sneak Peek" at the Jersey Rockers' new album, Have A Nice Day. CC radio station Web sites are streaming the album in its entirety all weekend long. Have A Nice Day arrives in stores this Tuesday, September 20. As previously reported, Bon Jovi have mapped out a North American tour for this fall and winter.

Bono and The Edge have written and recorded a new song for their old friend, director Wim Wenders, and his new film Don't Come Knocking. The tune, which is also called "Don't Come Knocking," is a duet between Bono and Andrea Corr of The Corrs. In other U2 news, the New York Times features Bono in a lengthy feature (which can be read here), proclaiming the singer as "'the most politically effective figure in the recent history of popular culture." U2 began the second leg of their North American tour earlier this week in Toronto.

MTV.com reports that CBGB will likely remain open at least through the end of the month. A hearing had been scheduled for Thursday morning in the ongoing dispute over its fate, but it has been postponed until October 3. Concerts are still scheduled at the legendary venue throughout September, with Disturbed playing on September 20.

Tom Waits has sued General Motors German division Adam Opel AG over their use of an impersonator of his distinctive voice in an ad. Waits says he had been asked to create music for a commercial for the company, and after he turned down the offer, a "soundalike" was used in the ad anyway. Waits has successfully sued other companies in the past over similar disputes.

Lil' Kim will begin serving her year in prison beginning next week, but the controversial Rapper is filming her last free days for a potential reality show to be shopped around. According to Variety, the show has the working title of Lil' Kim Goes To The Big House.

'NSYNC will release a best-of album, simply titled 'NYSNC's Greatest Hits, on October 25. The compilation includes 11 of the boy band's biggest hit singles.

After a four year hiatus, Louise Post has reunited Veruca Salt for a fall tour and new recordings. An EP is slated for release by year's end, with a new studio album scheduled for next summer, entitled Lords Of Sounds And Lesser Things. So far, 11 concert dates have been announced for October and November.

Public Enemy will release their new studio album, New Whirl Odor, exclusively through Best Buy, in stores and online. The Best Buy exclusivity runs until November 1, after which the album will be available everywhere.
