The Strokes' new single from First Impressions Of Earth, "Juicebox," has already begun invading the radio airwaves, and the band will shoot the video this weekend. However, they are being very tight-lipped about the concept. Frontman Julian Casablancas told MTV.com, "We're doing a live performance at a radio station [in the video], which will be broadcast all across New York. There might be full-frontal nudity. MTV will not play this video because it's so controversial, [but] it will be groundbreaking."
MTV also reports that the video treatment calls for people of all genders, ages, ethnicities and sexual preferences who are "comfortable" with exhibitionistic displays of love and affection. It is also said to have a surprise ending.
Meanwhile, Casablancas did open up a bit about the new album, which is due in January. It was produced by David Kahne (Sugar Ray, Soul Coughing) and will feature 14 tracks. "We wanted to make a collective effort to try to make [the album] different and better — bigger and better," Casablancas said about picking Kahne as a producer. "We wanted to protect our ideals — what we consider to be good taste — and we needed someone to help us take it to the next level, without us having to compromise anything. We wanted to evolve and progress and build on what we started, and this album is what we thought was a natural progression."
The Strokes will do a brief South American tour at the end of October and they plan to tour the U.S. in 2006. As previously reported, First Impressions Of Earth will arrive in stores on January 3, 2006.
