 Rivers Cuomo

While the future of Weezer had been called into question in a recent interview, frontman Rivers Cuomo knows exactly what he'll be doing in 2006. As expected, Cuomo will be returning to Harvard University in February to finally finish his degree in English Literature, which he started back in the mid-'90s. Cuomo was at Harvard when he wrote much of the fan-favorite album Pinkerton. Cuomo confirmed his plans to Howard Stern when Weezer visited his show earlier in the week.Until then, the band is still on the road with the Foo Fighters, promoting their latest album, Make Believe. They recently shot a video for the third single, "Perfect Situation," only without Cuomo as the singer. Director Marc Webb described the concept to MTV.com, saying, "We are exploring the history of Weezer. It's the Weezer prequel, if you will, and we're going to document the early days of the band. A lot of people don't know this, but before Weezer was Weezer, they were a band called Weeze. Rivers was just a roadie for the band, and they had a totally hot female singer."
The "totally hot female" in question will be portrayed by Elisha Cuthbert of 24 fame, a Geffen spokesperson told MTV.com. The plotline continues with Cuthbert's character getting out of control with her "bad attitude and rock-star temperament," leading to Cuomo stepping up to the mic and adding that all-important "R" to the band's name. The video will also feature an audience of actual fans of the band.
In still more Weezer news, according to their official Web site, the band is considering releasing their first live DVD. You can catch Weezer on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno tomorrow (Thursday, October 20). Their tour with the Foos wraps at the end of the month, then the band will head to Japan for a brief tour in December.
