Quick Hits: Bono, Dave Matthews, John Legend, James Taylor, The Doors, Queen, Rilo Kiley
October 20, 2005

Bono

While U2 is in Washington, D.C. for a pair of sold-out shows, Bono took the time to stump for his favorite global issues: debt relief, AIDS, Africa and world trade. He had a one-hour and 40-minute lunch meeting with George W. Bush, and also met with several House Democrats as well. Bono also makes the cover of the newest Rolling Stone, where he discusses everything from his interactions with world leaders to the reasons behind his constant wearing of sunglasses.

Dave Matthews will play an unusual venue when he performs as part of the first-ever Dave Matthews & Friends Caribbean Cruise Getaway. The four-day cruise will take place from February 3 - 6 and be highlighted by a performance from Matthews on a private island in the Bahamas. Other artists taking part in the cruise include Bob Weir & Ratdog, Toots And The Maytals, Mike Doughty's Band and G. Love And Special Sauce. More details can be found here.

John Legend will release the live DVD Live At The House Of Blues on December 6. The DVD will be packaged with his album Get Lifted. The performance was filmed in August and features appearances from the ever-present Kanye West and Snoop Dogg.

James Taylor will be honored as the 2006 MuisCares Person Of The Year at a gala dinner on February 6, 2006. The event is part of the week leading up to next year's Grammy Awards. "MusiCares and The Recording Academy take great pride in honoring James Taylor as an extraordinary human being, musician and humanitarian who has made a global impact on music and culture," said MusiCares President Neil Portnow. "As the quintessential singer/songwriter, he embodies the creative spirit that is the hallmark of our finest and most enduring musical icons. His impact on the music and culture of our era has been enormous, and we welcome this opportunity to pay fitting tribute to a voice that continues to resonate within our community."

Billboard reports that The Doors: Live In Philadelphia will be released on November 29. The concert, recorded May 1, 1970 in Philadelphia at the Spectrum, comes from the band's final tour.

Queen's A Night At The Opera will be re-released on November 22 as a 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition. According to Billboard, the album will include a bonus DVD with a DTS 5.1 Surround Sound mix and track-by-track commentary from the band members, including interview clips from the late Freddie Mercury.

Rilo Kiley singer Jenny Lewis has revealed details about her upcoming solo album. Lewis tells MTV.com that Rabbit Fur Coat (out January 24) will include a cover of The Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care," with Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard and Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes taking the place of Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan. "This album is basically me paying homage to all my inspirations. I used to have a 'no covers' policy in Rilo Kiley, which I guess was me being stubborn," Lewis told MTV.com. "I've always loved the Traveling Wilburys, and I thought about who could sing the different parts. And I thought, well, Ben could play Roy, because his voice is so pure and beautiful, and of course I thought of Conor doing the Dylan part, which I think is pretty awesome and humorous in its own right."
