For the second year of the post-Janet era, the halftime entertainment at the Super Bowl will come from a Classic Rock artist unlikely to disrobe on camera. The NFL announced that the Rolling Stones will perform at Ford Field in Detroit on February 5 at Super Bowl XL. The Stones' peer, Sir Paul McCartney, was the halftime performer for this past year's Super Bowl.
"We are excited to welcome one of the greatest bands in history to the Super Bowl," said Steve Bornstein, NFL EVP of media and President and CEO of NFL Network. "As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Super Bowl this season, it is fitting we work with The Rolling Stones who have thrilled and continue to excite audiences around the world with their music."The Stones also have announced a summer tour of Europe for 2006. The trek begins in Barcelona, Spain on May 27, with over 30 concerts in more than 20 countries slated for next year. Dates are scheduled up to August 29 in Cardiff, Wales. Specific dates, venues and ticket information can be found here. The Rolling Stones have a few more North American dates left in 2005, before picking things back up in Montreal on January 10.
