Justin Timberlake Returns To Music-Making In '06
January 5, 2006

Justin Timberlake

While Justin Timberlake spent most of 2005 concentrating on acting in movies, the singer is ready to put out another album in 2006. He has already been working with some of his usual collaborators in Will.I.Am and Timbaland, but he is also working with another famous producer that people probably would not expect to see on a J.T. album. Timberlake revealed to MTV that he has recorded some tracks with the mastermind who helped shape Slayer, the Beastie Boys and Public Enemy: Rick Rubin.

"He's a nice guy and cool and humble and obviously a genius, and I'm looking forward to hearing myself do something I've never done," Timberlake told MTV.com. "He was like, 'I'm not going to influence you. I want you to do what you do.' And that's such a comforting thing as an artist."

Timberlake has recorded more than a dozen tracks with Timbaland, Will.I.Am and Rubin, but he plans to keep working through the spring and would like to release a new CD this summer. It's too early for J.T. to say how the new record will sound, but he did predict it will be different from Justified. He has been playing a lot of guitar and piano on the new recordings, which is a first for him.

"It's going to be interesting to see what comes out of this record because everything I wrote on the last record, I wanted it concentrated to one thing: a Pop/R&B sound," he explained. "This one, it's more fly by the seat of your pants. It's less concentrated to one sound. It's more broad as far as the styles I wanted to mix in to my own type of thing."

Look for Timberlake's movies Alpha Dog, Edison and Black Snake Moan to premiere throughout the year.
