Linkin Park

Linkin Park drummer Rob Bourdon has given fans a big update on the band's Web site, saying that they have been writing new songs for the last three months and they will soon enter a pre-production studio. "We have three separate rooms to work out of at the studio, which is really cool because we can still work individually if we need to," Bourdon writes. "I personally like taking song ideas and working on the drums for a while on my own before letting the other guys hear what I have come up with. Songs can be passed around from room to room so each of us can add in our part. Since we are all there together we can help each other to develop each of our parts and create the best songs possible. It is the ultimate creative environment for how we write music, since we write by recording into a computer, not by jamming together. We currently have around 50 rough ideas for songs, which will be narrowed down to about 15 when we enter the recording studio. We are very excited about the work we have done so far, and working hard to get it done so you guys can hear it." Meanwhile, LP Rapper Mike Shinoda is heading out on the road to promote his side project, Fort Minor.

A number of artists will perform a tribute to Sly & The Family Stone at the 48th annual Grammy awards on February 8. Maroon 5, Will.I.Am, John Legend, Joss Stone, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Robert Randolph and singer Devin Lima all will come together for the tribute. Also, Bruce Springsteen and Coldplay have been added to the list of performers for the show. Meanwhile, the 2006 Grammy Nominees CD hit stores this week, featuring 21 tracks by artists like Gorillaz, Green Day, Mariah Carey, U2, Beck, Kelly Clarkson, Coldplay and Death Cab For Cutie. A portion of the sales from the CD will benefit the MusicCares Foundation and the Grammy Foundation.

Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band's November 18, 1975, show at London's Hammersmith Odeon will be released as a two-disc set on February 28, according to Billboard.com. The show first appeared on DVD last fall as part of the 30th anniversary edition of the Born To Run album. The performance in England was highlighted by tracks like "She's the One," "Rosalita" and "It's Hard To Be a Saint in the City," and it marked Springsteen and company's first visit to England.

Aerosmith

Aerosmith and Cheap Trick are teaming up for another run of North American tour dates. The outing will run from March 2 in Hollywood, FL through April 9 in Vancouver. Meanwhile, Cheap Trick will reissue the albums Dream Police and All Shook Up on March 7 via Epic/Legacy.

Music documentary specialist Julien Temple (The Filth And The Fury, Glastonbury) tells MTV that his next film will focus on the late, great Joe Strummer of The Clash. Temple said he planned to make a movie "about his life. Not so much about the Clash, although they were obviously a huge part of that. It's a film about Joe, about the man, the story of his life, the music before the Clash and after the Clash - as well as about the Clash." Temple has hours of film already, much of which he shot with Strummer before his death in 2002.

The bad boys of Motley Crue were on hand Wednesday to receive their star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. "We're across the street from the Erotica Museum and Frederick's of Hollywood. This is a perfect place for us to be," bassist Nikki Sixx reportedly told hundreds of fans.

Pop group the Pussycat Dolls are scheduled to perform their songs "Don't Cha" and "Sway" on ABC's Dancing With The Stars this Friday (January 27) night during the results show.

Melissa Auf der Maur

Melissa Auf der Maur's Rock resume already includes stints in Hole, The Smashing Pumpkins and as a solo artist. Now Jam! Music reports that she will be working for EMI Music Canada doing A&R for the label, scouting out and consulting new Canadian acts. She is also continuing work on her follow-up to 2004's self-titled solo debut.

On March 7, Rhino Records will continue its Grateful Dead reissue program with the release of five studio albums from the mid '70s, each remastered and expanded with outtakes and/or concert recordings. Wake Of The Flood, From The Mars Hotel, Blues For Allah, Terrapin Station and Shakedown Street all will get the reissue treatment.

Megadeth is seeking a new look for venerable band mascot Vic Rattlehead, and artists can now submit their ideas online. deviantART.com is hosting the contest, and those who submit new designs have a chance to win three Dave Mustaine Signature Serious electric guitars from ESP. The contest ends on Valentine's Day.

Judas Priest guitarist Glenn Tipton will re-release two albums on March 7 via Rhino Records. Tipton's 1997 set Baptizm Of Fire will be put out with two bonus tracks, and the Tipton, Entwistle & Powell album Edge Of The World will also be re-released with previously unheard recordings from the late Cozy Powell and John Entwistle that were laid down at the same time as Baptizm Of Fire.

MTV.com reports that the Eagles of Death Metal, who will release their second album, Death By Sexy, on April 11, have been confirmed as the support act for all of the dates on The Strokes' forthcoming spring tour. It kicks off March 3 in New York City.

Grunge fans take note: The original members of Candlebox (frontman Kevin Martin, guitarist Peter Klett, bassist Bardi Martin and drummer Scott Mercado) will reunite for a three-month U.S. tour beginning on July 1. The band will be touring in support of a forthcoming greatest-hits collection, according to MTV.com.
