Quick Hits: Grammys, Pink Floyd, Disturbed, Live, Norah Jones, Arctic Monkeys, The Vines, Saves The Day
January 30, 2006

Last week it was announced that Maroon 5, John Legend, Steven Tyler & Joe Perry and many others would be performing an all-star tribute to Sly & The Family Stone at next week's Grammy Awards. Now rumors are circulating that the reclusive Sly Stone himself, as well as his former bandmates, will appear at the awards show next Wednesday, February 8. Stone has not made a public appearance in over a dozen years, or granted an interview in over 20 years. Coincidentally, a tribute album to the band, Different Strokes For Different Folks, will arrive in stores next Tuesday, the day before the Grammys.

Speaking of reunions, the members of Pink Floyd have released a statement denying that the group has any plans to reform this year, debunking a rumor that they would be playing a series of concerts in London this fall. The group reunited for Live 8 last summer, but a statement was released by David Gilmour today saying, "Nick [Mason], Richard [Wright], Roger [Waters] and I are telling fans directly that this is not happening." Actually, Gilmour is getting ready to release a new solo album, On An Island, on March 7, with a tour to follow.

Disturbed

Disturbed's David Draiman revealed in a recent interview with KISW/Seattle that his band has signed on for this summer's Ozzfest. The last time Disturbed played Ozzfest was three years ago on its main stage. Black Label Society is also expected to be a part of the annual Rock festival, with Blabbermouth.net reporting that Avenged Sevenfold and Atreyu also are tipped to possibly sign on as well.

Flying back home after opening a series of Canadian dates for NickelbackLive had a bit of a scare when the Pennsylvania band's flight made an emergency landing at O'Hare International Airport. According to reports, the plane's cabin filled with smoke and was diverted, but eventually reached its destination. Live will release their new studio album, Songs From Black Mountain, on April 11.

Norah Jones

MTV.com reports that Norah Jones' former accountant and manager is suing the singer for almost half a million dollars in unpaid royalties from her last two albums.

Up-and-coming band The Arctic Monkeys set a new sales record in the U.K. last week, smashing the record for the fastest-selling debut album ever with 360,000 copies sold of Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not in its first week. The Monkeys' album arrives Stateside on February 21.

Australian Rock band The Vines have unveiled a new tune, "Don't Listen To The Radio," on their Web site. Their third album still lacks a title, but it will be released in the U.S. on April 4.

Saves The Day has re-signed with Vagrant Records and will release Sound The Alarm, their fifth studio album, on April 4. The band will hit the road for a spring tour beginning on March 8 in Santa Cruz, CA.
