The lineup of performers at Wednesday night's 48th Annual Grammy Awards continues to expand, with the Recording Academy announcing a tribute to New Orleans and its musical history. Billboard reports that the all-star performance will feature New Orleans natives Dr. John, Allen Toussaint and Irma Thomas joined on-stage by Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, U2's The Edge and Soul singer Sam Moore."Our Academy represents thousands of music people across the country, many of whom were directly affected by the New Orleans tragedy," says Recording Academy President Neil Portnow, adding that the show "wouldn't be complete if we didn't take this unique opportunity to pay homage to a region with such rich musical history and culture."
The Edge recently helped found the Music Rising organization to assist musicians who were affected by last year's Gulf Coast disasters. Costello and Toussaint have recorded an album together, The River In Reverse, which will be released in May.
In other Grammy news, Fiona Apple, Sting and Sheryl Crow have all been added as presenters for tomorrow night's ceremony. Yesterday Jay-Z and Linkin Park were announced as performers for the show, teaming up for a song from their Collision Course mash-up album. The Grammys will air Wednesday night on CBS at 8 p.m. EST.
