Earlier this month, it was announced that Lollapalooza would be returning this summer to Chicago's Grant Park as a one-city festival. Now its organizers have confirmed that it will indeed be spread out over three days, running from August 4 to 6. Capital Sports & Entertainment, the festival's organizers, announced that the festival will take over a larger section of the park this time. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Lollapalooza will have a total of eight stages and 130 bands overall.Ticket information and the band lineup will not be made public for another month. However, The Flaming Lips are rumored to be playing the festival. And of course, the reunited Smashing Pumpkins have had their name floated around from the minute the concert was announced.
"Lollapalooza is a place where young upstarts become legends, and legends return to claim their fame," said festival co-founder Perry Farrell in a statement. "For three days this summer, people will come to Chicago to witness musical history in real time."
Lollapalooza will be a boon to the Chicago parks service, bringing in money for further restoration. "Lollapalooza this year will mean even more funds for Chicago's parks," Grant Park Conservatory spokesperson Bob O'Neill told the Sun-Times. "This is music to our ears." The 2005 edition brought a total of approximately 30,000 concertgoers each day and $400,000 for improvements to the parks.
