Last year when the Foo Fighters' released their double-CD In Your Honor, the band was discussing some way they could do a special tour for the acoustic half of the record. After rocking out in 2005 on their own and on a well-received tour with Weezer, the band is finally ready to mellow out for the summer. The band has announced the initial theater dates for their acoustic tour, which will find their live lineup doubling in size.Returning to the fold for the first time in almost a decade is guitarist Pat Smear, who was a touring member of Nirvana in their final days, as well as a guitarist for the Foos in the band's early years. Also on board is violinist Petra Haden (of that dog and solo fame) and The Wallflowers' Rami Jaffee on keyboards. Percussionist Drew Hester, who producer Foo skinman Taylor Hawkins' recent side-project The Coattail Riders, will also be performing with the band.
The tour begins on July 11 in Seattle, and only seven dates have been announced thus far, with more on the way. Opening the shows at various dates will be ex-surfer Timmy Curran and Frank Black of the Pixies.
