| Madonna Still Embracing Controversy On Tour Opener |

 Madonna
| Madonna kicked off her Confessions tour in Los Angeles on Sunday night, and the 47-year-old Pop queen is still not afraid to ruffle a few feathers. Aside from the erotic dancing and dominatrix outfits that we've come to expect from Madonna, her most controversial moment was when she posed as Jesus hanging from a cross and wearing a crown of thorns during "Live To Tell," as images of suffering children flashed on the screens around her. However, as the Los Angeles Times pointed out in its review, "What was so fascinating wasn't the message of compassion this outspoken children's advocate attached to her heretical stance; it was the way she held it, arms outstretched and face serious, for the entire song, until the shock wore off and it seemed less like blasphemy than an ardent attempt to understand what makes such an image so compelling."
Madonna also took a shot at George Bush during the song "I Love New York," changing the line "Just go to Texas/ Isn't that where they golf" to a derogatory anti-Bush remark. However, the set was not overly political. It was mostly comprised of new tunes from Confessions On A Dance Floor, though she did dust off a few old favorites such as "Like A Virgin" and "Erotica." The set was also rife with remixes, as "Music" was mashed with the song "Disco Inferno" and "La Isla Bonita" was reinvented with a salsa groove, according to MTV.com. Madonna brought out another oldie in "Lucky Star" but modernized the track with a techno beat that morphed into "Hung Up."
The elaborate set reportedly used 22 dancers, so many screens that some were embedded in the floor, and costumes that fell off to become other costumes. The singer provocatively rode a carousel-like set during "Like A Virgin," and during "Jump," a jungle gym descended onto the runway and a crew of tumblers raced around the stage for a gymnast routine. MTV.com also reports that during the song "Music," dancers whisked around Madonna on roller skates as she donned a white suit a la John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever and danced down the runway to a small stage in the middle of the arena.
Madonna's tour returns to the Forum in Inglewood, CA on Tuesday and Wednesday and the U.S. leg is scheduled to wrap on July 23 in Miami.
Here is Madonna's set list, according to MTV.com:
"Future Lovers" "Get Together" "Like A Virgin" "Jump" "Live to Tell" "Forbidden Love" "Isaac" "Sorry" "Like It or Not" "I Love New York" "Ray of Light" "Let It Will Be" "Drowned World" "Paradise (Not for Me)" "Music" "Erotica" "La Isla Bonita" "Lucky Star" "Hung Up"
