Starbucks connection to the music industry has grown more and more over the years, with exclusive album releases sold only at the ubiquitous coffee shop. Late last year, rumors began swirling that the company was looking to get into the digital music business, after an interview with CEO Howard Schultz hinted as such. Now comes a report that Starbucks will use its in-store wireless Internet setup to begin selling music downloads at their stores.
Vnunet.com reports that Starbucks would add more wireless hotspots to its stores, allowing for further expansion of a potential digital music service. The company already operates three of its Hear Music stores, which allows customers to sample music then burn a copy of what they like to a CD in the store.
Starbucks Entertainment President Ken Lombard recently addressed the Hear Music initiative, which has met with mixed results so far, in a speech. "Customers want to bring their devices into our stores," he said, according to Digital Music News. "We don’t have a solution today, but we are committed to finding one".
