The ongoing FCC emissions compliance issues facing XM and Sirius continue to plague both satcasters. In a new SEC filing from XM, the company says that it is still testing receivers such as the Delphi XM SkyFi2 and Audiovox Xpress, to make sure they fit with FCC regulations. In the filing, XM says, "We have recently been advised our new equipment certifications have been dismissed (but not denied) by the FCC. Dismissal allows the equipment certifications to be reinstated if the equipment is deemed compliant."
Meanwhile, Sirius has announced that it has pulled a few of its own receivers which are not FCC compliant. In its own SEC filing, the company said the FCC is still reviewing a handful of its receivers. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that the FCC was investigating Sirius.
All of the receivers in questions from both satcasters are the type which re-transmit satellite signals to your car radios or any other local radio via a low-level transmission. The FCC says the transmitters are too powerful and overmodulating beyond their emissions standards.
