Facing financial difficulties, SiriusXM Canada is asking the Canadian government to cut some of the fees it is required to pay out. The Globe And Mail reports that the satcaster is asking to renegotiate its license with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Comission (CRTC) and chop its mandatory contributions to artistic development funds in the country by 90 percent. In a filing to the CRTC, SiriusXM says it "has been losing money at a disturbing rate." The paper says that over the last seven years, SiriusXM Canada has paid out $52 million to the CRTC, far more than all the terrestrial radio stations in all of Canada put together. In its most recent quarter, the satcaster took a $2.6 million loss.
