June 28, 2012
Internet radio aggregator service TuneIn announces strategic alignments with Cox Media Group, EmmisCommunications and Entercom Communications.
"As we transform into a digital media company, Cox Media Group is extending our great local brands to as many digital platforms as possible to seamlessly provide our audiences with the programming they want where and when they want it," said Doug Franklin, Cox Media Group President. "TuneIn leads the industry with their listener-first approach to everything they do, and we are excited to offer our broadcasts to the growing and vastly important digital audience, especially as it pertains to the mobile and automotive worlds, into which TuneIn has made great strides." Cox operates 86 radio stations in 19 markets.
"As a company with such a distinguished communications history, this alliance will extend the Cox Media Group family of programs to our ever-expanding pool of listeners," added John Donham, CEO, TuneIn. "We are eager to bring their current audience of more than 18 million weekly listeners the best listening experience possible-whenever they want, wherever they are."
"Emmis is excited by today's announcement. We want to follow our listeners and deliver our content to the platforms they choose to use," said Jeff Smulyan, Chairman/CEO of Emmis Communications. "The TuneIn platform will provide our listeners from coast to coast another connection point with their favorite radio brands." Earlier this month, Emmis made the entire HOT 97 Summer Jam festival available for free listening through the TuneIn service. Emmis similarly offered themed stations celebrating the music of HOT 97 Summer Jam and the POWER 106 Powerhouse festival exclusively to TuneIn listeners. TuneIn and Emmis-owned KGSR/Austin worked closely together in March as KGSR streamed numerous live performances from SXSW to the TuneIn audience.
"One of our key focal points is to connect the highest quality broadcasters with the millions of passionate listeners who look to TuneIn to hear their favorite content and discover great new stations and artists," added Donham. "Emmis has such a compelling stable of influential radio stations, and as an organization they really understand the value of great programming and strong brand-building. We are very excited to align with them."
"This is a great deal for Entercom, for TuneIn and most importantly for our listeners. We are very pleased to align Entercom with such an innovative company as TuneIn, which will deliver our terrific local programming to a wider, digitally engaged audience. Together, Entercom and TuneIn will deliver existing and new fans the best listening experience possible," said Entercom President/CEO David J. Field. "We pride ourselves on delivering the very best content and aligning with TuneIn gives Entercom direct access to listeners on over 150 different platforms from mobile (iPhone, iPad, Android) to the home to automobiles."
"With stations around the country and across the top TuneIn genres, Entercom’s amazing programming is a welcome option for TuneIn listeners," said Donham. "TuneIn listeners can enjoy everything from the best in sports talk with WEEI in Boston, to San Francisco’s most listened to station 96.5 KOIT FM, to the highly acclaimed KISW in Seattle, and much, much more."
