Rihanna Reveals Surreal "Diamonds" Video
November 9, 2012

Rihanna's video for her latest single, "Diamonds," has premiered across MTV and Vevo. The video is full of surreal images, such as the singer roaming the desert with two wild horses and Rihanna surviving in a post-apocalyptic world where people around her go up in flames. The singer explains that the Anthony Mandler-directed video is more about emotion than any tangible storyline.

"With every song it's a different story, so the visuals are very specific to that story and that world. With 'Diamonds,' it was just a series of vignettes that we put together to help get the emotion across throughout the song 'cause the song changes and it builds, and there's no real way that you could do that," she told MTV News. "You just want people to feel that and I wanted little cutaways of interactions that would give you the right emotion."

Rihanna added the the lead single from her next album, Unapologetic, also gives fans an idea of what they may hear when the album drops on
November 19. "It was the right powerful record," she said. "It was hopeful. It was also different from what people are used to hearing from me. It was a song that meant something, and that's the whole theme throughout the album."

In a Facebook chat on Thursday night, Rihanna also pledged her support for Hurricane Sandy relief. Her album listening party at Jay-Z's 40/40 Club tonight will now serve to benefit the New York Daily News Hurricane Relief Fund, plus she will make a $100,000 donation to the Food Bank for New York.
