While that rumored seven-figure indecency fine against Infinity has yet to materialize, Howard Stern still sounds exasperated by the indecency crackdown. After discovering that this morning's "Robin Crapped Her Pants" song parody had been edited by show censors, Stern vented. "I am so done with this situation," he told listeners. "It's ridiculous. I want out, I want to go work for another medium where I can talk and not worry if Slash says the F-word. I want that, I crave it now. I want out of this."
Stern told listeners he decided this weekend that he's ready to move on: "I was on the fence but now I want out." He also worked the latest round of rumors about his boss into the conversation. "Mel [Karmazin]'s leaving, why can't I?" But GM Tom Chiusano reminded Stern that he's still under contract.
While Stern's deal doesn't expire until the end of '05, Opie & Anthony are free to roam about the airwaves next Tuesday. Will it be XM or Sirius that signs them? Too hot for terrestrial, O&A have been in negotiations with both satellite companies -- but a deal with either has yet to be announced. Personalities fired for being too raunchy aren't the only ones knocking at satellite radio's door. Even men's magazine Maxim is said to be pursuing a satellite radio channel.
