Quick Hits: The Game, The Rolling Stones, Kanye West, Kid Rock, The Gaslight Anthem, Kelly Rowland, Billy Clyro, Jimi Hendrix, Fiona Apple
November 20, 2012

On December 11, The Game will release his fifth album, Jesus Piece, via Interscope Records, and celebrate with an intimate show at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. The album features a number of guest stars, as Kanye West and Common rap on the album's title track and Chris Brown, Tyga, Wiz Khalifa and Lil Wayne join Game on the lead single, "Celebration." "The Jesus Piece album concept came together while I was recording a song that eventually became the title track. It was this song that inspired me to create series of recordings themed around experiences and feelings that I hope everyone can relate to on some level," explains Game. "I have an amazing collection of artists helping me deliver the 'good word' and I hope the fans will receive it as one of their favorite hip-hop albums of the year."

The Rolling Stones

John Sykes, President of Clear Channel Entertainment Enterprises, revealed to Rolling Stone that the organizers of the upcoming 12-12-12 benefit concert for victims of Super Storm Sandy have been in talks with the Rolling Stones' camp. The Rock icons play Newark the following day and Sykes said, "There's been talk of that. The challenge is they have a full-blown dress rehearsal on the 12th or the 13th because their Pay Per View special is on the 15th. But, yeah, there have been conversations with them. Mick and Keith came out for the Concert for New York City 11 years ago and played on their own. They're well aware of the show and certainly have been invited to be part of it in any way, shape or form of the band." Sykes added that the full lineup has yet to be announced. Thus far, The Who, Kanye West, Roger Waters, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Alicia Keys, Billy Joel and Jon Bon Jovi have all be announced as performers.

Kanye West has announced a three-night stand at Ovation Hall in Atlantic City to close out the year. West will play December 28, 29 and 30 at the venue. The rapper performed two shows at the venue earlier this year.

In a new interview with MTV News, Kid Rock talks about creating an (even more) over-the-top alter ego on his new album, Rebel Soul. The Kid came up with "Bobby Shazam" for the track "Cucci Galore" and says, "Oh, man, Bobby. He probably came from having too many adult beverages, and trying to come up with something fun and different to do musically, and maybe have this character that could come out at shows. He's just this psychotic rock and roller. Like, I picture his dad being a roadie for REO Speedwagon, and his mom was a high-priced call girl somewhere, and he's just out of his mind. So we named him Bobby Shazam, and we'll see if we can bring him to life onstage or not." Rebel Soul is in stores this week.

The Gaslight Anthem has released a new music video for "National Anthem," off their latest album Handwritten, to help raise funds to help those affected by Super Storm Sandy. The video is made up of footage of Sandy's aftermath, ending with the message "Stay strong, Jersey." The New Jersey natives are now selling two specially designed t-shirts via PunkCares.org to benefit organizations helping to aid in the recovery. The band's upcoming concert at Terminal 5 in New York City will air on AXS TV and the channel will make a donation to the recovery effort that matches the amount of money raised by sales of the t-shirts, according to Rolling Stone.

Kelly Rowland tells Billboard that her fourth solo record, Year Of The Woman, will be out early in 2013. The ex-Destiny's Child member revealed she has been recording with R&B production greats Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. "Let me tell you something, they are a part of the foundation of who I am as well," she said. "Because their sound was one of the first things I remember about R&B. Being in the studio with them, I wanted to pinch myself."

Biffy Clyro have announced the U.S. release of their new album, Opposites, on March 12, 2013 via Warner Bros Records. A deluxe double album with "making-of" documentary will be available the same day. The first single off Opposites, "Black Chandelier," has already premiered on BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe show. The album was produced by GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers) in Los Angeles.

In celebration of the 70th Anniversary of Jimi Hendrix's birth, his August 1969 performance at Woodstock will be screened in select cinemas globally starting on November 26. Hendrix premiered a new band at the festival and his set included unforgettable renditions of songs like "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)," "Fire," "Purple Haze" and "Foxy Lady," as well as his interpretation of the "Star Spangled Banner." Hendrix's road to the Woodstock festival is revealed by way of never before seen footage and interviews with his band members such as Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell, engineer Eddie Kramer and Woodstock promoter Michael Lang. That documentary, which precedes the performance footage, reveals the struggle to stage the legendary festival and secure Hendrix as its headline artist. Tickets for theatrical screenings of Hendrix 70: Live At Woodstock will be available at
www.jimihendrix.com.

Fiona Apple has postponed her upcoming tour of South America, to be with her dying dog Janet. In a lenghty post on her Facebook page today, Apple wrote about her love for the ailing dog and said, "Sometimes it takes me 20 minutes to pick which socks to wear to bed. But this decision is instant. These are the choices we make, which define us. I am not the woman who puts her career ahead of love and friendship. I'm the woman who stays home, and bakes tilapia for my dearest, oldest friend." Apple was slated to kick off her tour in Brazil on November 27.
