One Direction Go For The Gold
November 21, 2012

One Direction
One Direction's second album, Take Me Home, lands atop the SoundScan/Billboard sales chart this week with 540,000 copies sold. This gives the boy band their second #1 album in the past year, as well as the third largest sales week of 2012, behind Taylor Swift and Mumford & Sons.

One Direction's debut, Up All Night, landed at #1 upon its release back in March, with 176,000 copies sold. This feat also made them the first UK act whose debut release arrived at #1 in its first week in the sales chart's history, according to Billboard.

Meanwhile, a number of other major releases debuted in the top ten this week on the sales chart. The soundtrack to The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 debuts at #3, as the final installment in the successful series of Twilight soundtracks. Canadian R&B artist and blog favorite The Weeknd's major label debut Trilogy comes in at #4, followed by reunited rockers Soundgarden with King Animal at #5.

Christina Aguilera's fifth studio album Lotus debuts at #7, while Green Day's ¡Dos! debuts at #9, following ¡Uno!, which debuted at #2 in October. The third part of the band's trilogy, ¡Tre!, will be out December 11. Lana Del Rey's eight-song Paradise debuts at #8. Paradise is also bundled with her debut, Born To Die, as a deluxe Paradise edition of the album, which came out back in January. The deluxe version of Born To Die climbed to #37.

Taylor Swift's Red moves to #2 after three weeks on top. Rod Stewart's Merry Christmas, Baby comes in at #6, even though it saw an overall increase in sales. The latest NOW compilation lands at #8.
