Rush, Public Enemy Lead 2013 Rock Hall Of Fame Class
December 11, 2012

Rush
The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame has announced that Rush, Public Enemy, Heart, Randy Newman, Donna Summer and Albert King make up the class of 2013. Summer and King will recieve the honors posthumously. The Ahmet Ertegun Award will go to Quncy Jones and Lou Adler. The 2013 inductees were announced by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea at a press conference today in Los Angeles.

Rolling Stone notes that Public Enemy become only the fourth Hip-Hop act to be inducted into the Hall, following Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run DMC and the Beastie Boys.

In a statement, Rush said, "We are honored to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 3 of us are especially appreciative of our loyal fans whose support and dedication has gone a long way to making this possible. P.S. And special thanks to our moms for voting 6000 times!" Rush fans have long been vocal about the Canadian prog-rock trio's absence from the Hall.

For the first time, members of the public could vote for the Hall of Fame. Online votes were tabulated as a "fan's ballot" that was counted alongside approximately 600 other voters' ballots.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place April 13 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, and broadcast on HBO on May 18.
