Greater Media-Boston "Power" Flip A Stunt, 96.9 Now All-EDM
January 3, 2013
Yesterday morning, Greater Media flipped Talk WTKK/Boston to "Power 96.9, Boston's Hip Hop and R&B station." However, as the day progressed it became apparent that the new format was a stunt, as only a handful of songs were in rotation and repeating over and over throughout the day.
This morning 96.9 flipped again, this time to all-Electronic Dance Music as "NOVA 96.9." This new format is surely a stunt as well, as Greater Media has yet to reveal its true intentions for the frequency. An official announcement from the company merely says "The transformation of the new 96.9 FM continued today at 10am with the launch of NOVA, Boston’s new electronic dance music (EDM) station. Plan on more surprises to be unveiled throughout the week! Stay tuned."
For now, the station can be heard online at nova969.net.
Meanwhile, Greater Media announced this afternoon that veteran Boston radio personality Pebbles has been named as the new morning show host of 96.9 FM, regardless of what the format ends up becoming. She was most recently heard across town on CCM+E Rhythmic CHR WJMN (JAM'N 94.5), where she spent 17 years and was most recently morning co-host alongside Ramiro Torres.
"I am beyond thrilled to become a member of the Greater Media family, and am extremely grateful to Rob Williams for giving me the opportunity to continue my journey in radio doing what I love," said Pebbles. "I am deeply thankful for the support of the listeners who have followed my career over the years and I hope that they will continue to support me in my new venture."
"Pebbles has been a consistent top performer in Boston radio for years," said Greater Media-Boston Market Manager Rob Williams. "I had the pleasure to work with her at JAM’N and I was pleasantly surprised that she was available to join our team as we launch our new station on 96.9 FM. Her on-air talents, her commitment to working in the Boston community, and her incredible personality make a rare combination."
