Quick Hits: Beyoncé, Pearl Jam, Billboard money makers, Wiz Khalifa, The Roots & Elvis Costello, Aerosmith, Atoms For Peace, Michael Jackson
February 22, 2013

Beyoncé has signed a global publishing agreement with Warner/Chappell Music. The publishing house will now administer the 17-time Grammy winner's future songwriting, including her forthcoming new album. "It's an honor to join Warner/Chappell Music and to continue working with my friend Jon Platt," commented Beyoncé in the Warner/Chappell announcement release. "I trust his vision and admire his professionalism, and I look forward to our partnership." Earlier this week, her husband Jay-Z inked his own publishing deal with Warner/Chappell, for his own music as well as Roc Nation. Meanwhile, the singer will kick off the Mrs. Carter Show world tour in Europe on April 15, and it hits North America starting on June 28. Beyoncé has released a trailer for the trek, which can be seen below:

Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready tells Rolling Stone the band will release a new album by the end of 2013. In a new interview, McCready says the rockers are still working on demos and plan to be recording soon. He says, "we have seven songs that are relatively completed. But then we have an additional 15 ready to go aside from any that Eddie [Vedder] brings in, so we'll weed through those." McCready added, "I would say as a cliché answer it's kind of a logical extension of what [2009's] Backspacer was. But I think there's a little bit more experimental stuff going on. There's a Pink Floyd vibe to some of it, there's a punk rock edge to other stuff."

Billboard has released its "Top 40 Money Makers" list for 2013, ranking artists who brought in the most dough in the past 12 months, through touring, album sales, digital royatlies and more. Madonna was ranked #1 with just under $34.58 million, thanks to her massive MDNA tour. Bruce Springsteen was ranked second with $33.443 million, followed by Roger Waters' $21.16 million, due to his own gigantic tour of The Wall. The top ten was rounded out by Van Halen, Kenny Chesney, Dave Matthews Band, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, Coldplay and Justin Bieber.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa and his fiancee Amber Rose have welcomed a son into the world. On Thursday, Wiz tweeted a photo of himself in scrubs with the caption "Daddy time." Then, two hours later, the rapper revealed: "Happy Birthday Sebastian 'The Bash' Taylor Thomaz!!! Everyone welcome this perfect young man into the world." The baby is the first for the couple, who announced their engagement on March 1, 2012.

The collaboration album between Elvis Costello and The Roots may be out in time for Record Store Day on April 20. Roots drummer Questlove recently talked with NYU Local about jamming with Costello in the band's dressing room studio at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, explaining: "After Elvis Costello's third appearance, we liked him so much we were like, 'Hey why don't we make a record?' What went from being one song to be released on Record Store Day became 'Why don't we try four songs?' Now we have a brilliant album." Quest says the effort is nearly finished, and after that, The Roots will start working with Al Green on his next album. The drummer also plans to team with comedian Amy Schumer on a special, he's teaching a course at NYU called "Classic Albums," and he's working on D'Angelo's long-awaited new album. And somehow, in between all these jobs, he still manages to take on various DJ gigs around New York and Philadelphia.

Aerosmith's Joe Perry and Steven Tyler will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The ceremony is set to take place on June 13 in New York. Other inductees will include Mick Jones and Lou Gramm of Foreigner, Holly Knight (who wrote songs for Pat Benatar and Tina Turner), JD Souther (The Eagles) and Tony Hatch (staff producer at Pye Records), according to RollingStone.com.

Thom Yorke's side project Atoms For Peace have announced their first proper concert dates for 2013. The band, which includes producer/musician Nigel Godrich, Red Hot Chili Pepper Flea, drummer Joey Waronker and percussionist Mauro Refosco, will play three European festivals this July. Yorke and Godrich have already announced three DJ appearances in support of Atoms For Peace's debut album, Amok, due out next Tuesday. Additionally, their label XL Recordings has confirmed to FMQB that the band will appear on Saturday Night Live this fall and is currently plotting out a North American tour for the fall as well.

Cirque du Soleil will be premiering a new Michael Jackson-themed show this summer, following the success of its Michael Jackson: Immortal World Tour. The company's newest show will be called Michael Jackson ONE, and it will start preview performances at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on May 23. It will officially premiere June 29. The new 90-minute show will feature more than 60 dancers and aerialists, and organizers say it will be different from the current Immortal production.
