Off-Color, Off-Air Minnesota DJ Chatter Accidentally Broadcast
August 30, 2006
On Saturday night, an off-air conversation between KDWB/Minnesota DJ J.J. and a Clear Channel board operator back at the station was accidentally broadcast on sister Triple A station KTCZ (Cities 97). According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the DJ was telling a story to the board op, and used profanity in their conversation. An unknown technical glitch broadcast the KDWB DJ over the airwaves of KTCZ.
KTCZ PD Lauren MacLeash tells FMQB that "we are investigating a conversation that was broadcast over the air due to innocent error. The KDWB DJ had no idea he was on-the-air. No KTCZ staff was ever involved. It was an equipment error that caused the off-air KDWB conversation to accidentally air for 8 minutes under the music on Cities 97. The conversation that took place may have contained inappropriate language. Our station's and company’s policy regarding radio broadcast indecency is clear. Indecent broadcasts will not be tolerated. Our company participates in company-wide training on Federal indecency rules and has procedures that detail swift and specific actions be taken if laws are violated. Rest assured that this error will never happen again."
