Greater Media has announced its plans for the 97.5 frequency in Philadelphia, which the company agreed to purchase from Nassau earlier this year. The station will flip to Smooth Jazz, bringing back the WJJZ call letters, some time next month. Nassau currently broadcasts Classic Rocker WTHK "The Hawk" on 97.5
"We are very excited about bringing smooth jazz back to the Philadelphia market," said Greater Media Philadelphia VP/ Market Manager John Fullam. "We sensed a lot of disappointment among listeners and advertisers when WJJZ changed its format last August. It's gratifying to be able to relaunch a station with such a loyal following and that has been successful for so long in Philadelphia."
Greater Media announced it had agreed to acquire 97.5 in July from Nassau. The station is currently licensed in Burlington, NJ, but is expected to move its transmitter into the Philadelphia market in the near future.
Clear Channel flipped WJJZ in Philadelphia to "Philly's 106.1" in August, with Whoopi Goldberg anchoring the station in mornings.
