Sirius On Track For One Million Subscribers

Sirius Satellite Radio announced today that they have passed the 700,000 subscriber mark and expect to end 2004 with one million subcribers on board. Citing new sports programming and a new line of hardware, the satcaster had a record month in September, signing up 69,000 new subscribers.

The new line of Sirius radios include smaller models with more features that are being well-received by consumers. Those products hit the market just as Sirius was launching a new ad campaign focusing on new programming, such as Sirius NFL Sunday Drive, featuring coverage of every NFL game each week. They also launched Sirius College Sports Radio in September, which will provide play-by-play coverage of football and basketball games from over 25 of the top college sports programs in the country.

"Sirius acquired over 69,000 subscribers in September, beating our previous record," says CEO Joseph P. Clayton. "This is indicative of the traction we are seeing in the retail marketplace and the launch of more factory programs with our automotive partners."

Sirius and Ford have recently announced that Ford will offer factory-installed Sirius receivers in four additional models to grow the total to 13. There are also plans to offer the factory-installed units in seven more models over the next two years.
