Rapper Talib Kweli earned his first Top 10 album this week with Ear Drum, which debuted at #2 on the sales chart with 60,000 copies sold, according to SoundScan. The album marks his best sales and charting week yet, but it was still was not enough to top the soundtrack to High School Musical 2, which remains at #1 for the second straight week. Other notable debuts this week include producer Swizz Beatz with his debut set, One Man Band Man, at #7 with 45,000 copies sold, San Diego Metal band As I Lay Dying's An Ocean Between Us at #8 with almost 40,000 sold, M.I.A. at #18 with her sophomore album, Kala, and Cartel's self-titled album, which was written and recorded inside of a bubble for MTV show Band in a Bubble. That album bows at #20 with 28,000 units sold. Also new are Rilo Kiley's Under the Blacklight at #22, Joe Nichols' Real Things at #23 and the New Pornographers' Challengers at #34.

Last week, The Killers revealed that the band is planning a rarities collection, which they hope to release by the end of 2007. Now the band has revealed that the legendary Lou Reed has recorded a duet with singer Brandon Flowers. Flowers told the NME, "The song [titled "Tranquilize"] was calling for a duet and his voice was just right. The sentiment of the song is very him." The new tune was recorded in New York over the past week with producers Flood and Alan Moulder.Jimmy Eat World have announced a month's worth of tour dates, primarily on the West coast, in support of this fall's Chase This Light. The new dates begin with the KEDJ/Phoenix Edgefest on September 29, with shows announced up to October 20 in Las Vegas. Chase This Light will be out on October 16 and the lead single, "Big Casino," arrived at radio this week.
78-year-old Rocker Bo Diddley was listed in stable condition at a Florida hospital Tuesday after suffering a heart attack, according to E! He is currently in the cardiac care unit after spending the weekend in intensive care. "He is conscious. The situation is very serious," publicist Susan Clary said. The singer/guitarist was previously hospitalized in Nebraska in May after suffering a stroke.
The Eagles’ first album of new material in more than 28 years, Long Road Out of Eden, will be a double album and is scheduled for an October 30 release. It will include 20 songs for $11.88 for the two-CD set, or $10.88 if purchased digitally. The new album is available now for pre-order, including a free download of the band’s recently released single “How Long,” through Walmart.com, Samclub.com and eaglesband.com. On October 30 when the CD is released, it will be available exclusively at Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores in the U.S. and Canada, as well as Walmart.com, Samsclub.com and eaglesband.com.
Joss Stone, The Byrds' Roger McGuinn, Shawn Colvin, Aimee Mann and others will be performing October 10 at New York's Carnegie Hall for a tribute to Elton John. The event will benefit Music For Youth Foundation, which provides music education to at-risk youth. Also on the bill are Phish's Page McConnell, Phoebe Snow, Jill Sobule and Lloyd Cole, Brendan Benson, Ryan Shaw, Joshua Radin, Pernice Brohters, Raul Malo and Lizz Wright.
Jon Bon Jovi is getting into the movie production business as he, along with Vector Management's Jack Rovner and Ken Levitan, have optioned Jessica Blank’s fiction novel, Almost Home, for a screenplay. The announcement comes two months before Almost Home’s print release, which is planned for October 23. Blank, an actor and writer, along with husband Erik Jensen, have already begun work on the Almost Home screenplay, which Bon Jovi, Rovner and Levitan will produce. The story follows a group of homeless teens whose lives intersect on the streets of Los Angeles.
Say Anything and Hellogoodbye will headline the first MySpace-branded tour this fall. The trek begins in Seattle on October 16 and end in Las Vegas over Thanksgiving weekend. Say Anything will release a new album, In Defense Of The Genre, in October.
