U2 guitarist The Edge is taking Irish tabloid the Sunday Times to court over the paper's report identifying a relative of the musician that was suffering from a serious illness. It had been rumored that the reason the band delayed the announcement and start of its world tour was to allow The Edge time with his ailing relative. In other U2 news, a number of dates in their 2005 Vertigo tour went on-sale over the weekend, with many additional shows added after the initial ones sold out.
Almost $3 million was raised for tsunami relief on Saturday night in Vancouver, as an all-star line up of Canadian musicians performed to a sold-out crowd. Avril Lavigne, Barenaked Ladies, Chantal Kreviazuk and her husband Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace, and Sarah McLachlan were among the many artists on hand for the benefit concert.

Alt-rockers Cake and Gomez will be a part of the 2005 edition of the Virgin College Mega Tour. The trek is expected to kick off in early April and visit at least 20 campuses around the country. The tour will feature an "emerging artist" stage as well as a number of other attractions and booths. Last year's inaugural Virgin tour included Michelle Branch, Rooney, and Gavin DeGraw.
Social Distortion has added bassist Brent Harding to the line up. Rancid's Matt Freeman had been filling in on bass since last Summer. The seminal California punk band will kick off a seven-week tour in Las Vegas on February 3.
