Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act Vote Coming This Week
February 15, 2005
This week, the House is expected to vote overwhelmingly in favor of the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act of 2005. The new legislation, already approved by the House Commerce Committee on a 46-2 vote, would significantly raise the dollar amount of indecency fines levied on broadcasters and performers from $32,000 per violation to $500,000.
Performers now also face a fine hike to $500,000 per indecent broadcast, up from $11,000. The new rules will also do away with warnings handed out for a performer's first offense.
