Quick Hits: Steven Tyler, "Dimebag" Darrell, The White Stripes, Metallica, Papa Roach, Beck, Soundgarden, The Wallflowers
February 21, 2005

Steven Tyler

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler is separating from his wife of 17 years, Teresa Barrick. Tyler released a statement yesterday, asking for the public to respect his family's privacy in the matter. The statement reads, "Before the tabloid media makes more of this than it is, I am announcing that my wife, Teresa, and I are currently separated. We're just a family trying to work through a difficult time. A little privacy and sensitivity - for Teresa, my children and myself - would be nice."

A new wristband memorializes the late Pantera/Damageplan guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. Similar to the ubiquitous "Livestrong" bands, the all-black rubber wristband features Abbott's favorite saying, "Getcha' Pull." Jon Nelson, one of the makers of the wristband, told MTV.com, "'Getcha' Pull' is a Dime-ism — he had his own way of speaking, It was his way of saying 'Have fun!' 'Getcha' pull off this bottle.' 'Have a drink.' 'Just enjoy life.' I don't think anyone knows the exact meaning." Proceeds from the sale of the memorial bands will go to the Dimebag Darrell Memorial Fund and VH1's Save The Music Foundation.

After celebrating his Grammy win alongside Loretta Lynn, Jack White told MTV News that the next item on his agenda was the recording of a new White Stripes album. "I'm going home to record in a couple of days," White laughed. "And it should be done pretty quick."

Metallica is auctioning off an autographed box set of their early albums on vinyl, with the money going to the Music For Relief organization. Music For Relief is the tsunami benefit foundation started by Linkin Park and The American Red Cross. The Metallica box set can be bid on here.

Papa Roach has added another ten dates in March and April to their upcoming tour. TRUSTcompany and No Warning will be on board as openers for the trek.

Beck will play a special benefit concert this Thursday night in Hollywood. All proceeds from the show will go to the International Foundation for Human Rights as well as tolerance efforts for orphans of the tsunami.

A long-awaited second release from Soundgarden side project Hater will finally see the light of day on April 26. Ex-Soundgarden members Ben Shepherd and Matt Cameron (now drumming for Pearl Jam) released their first record as Hater way back in 1993. Billboard reports the new album, called The 2nd, was recorded in the mid-1990's in between Soundgarden releases.

The Wallflowers will release Rebel, Sweetheart on May 24. The band's first new album in three years was produced by Brendan O'Brien. The first single is titled "The Beautiful Side Of Somewhere."
