RIAA Awards Green Day, Jones And Others
March 3, 2005

Green Day

Green Day's American Idiot became the second-best selling album of the band's career last month when the RIAA officially certified it Triple Platinum for sales of more than three million copies. The band also scored in the digital sales world, earning a pair of Gold Digital awards for the tracks "American Idiot" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," which have each been downloaded more than 100,000 times.

February also was a big month for Norah Jones as her huge breakthrough album, Come Away With Me, earned the coveted Diamond award from the RIAA for moving more than 10 million units. And on the other side of the musical spectrum, nine-man Metal band Slipknot earned their first RIAA multi-Platinum award when their self-titled set went Double Platinum. The band also pocketed their third consecutive Platinum album for their latest, Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses, and their first multi-Platinum video award for Disasterpieces, which has been certified for sales of more than 300,000 copies.

Other RIAA award-winners in February were John Legend, who received Gold and Platinum awards for Get Lifted; Kelly Clarkson, who received Gold and Platinum awards for Breakaway and Gold Digital awards for "Breakaway" and "Since U Been Gone;" Mario, who got a Platinum award for Turning Point; Los Lonely Boys, who went multi-Platinum with their self-titled debut; and Franz Ferdinand, who earned their first Platinum award for the self-titled debut.

Gold records also were handed out to Crossfade for their self-titled album and My Chemical Romance for Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge.
