Laid back singer/surfer Jack Johnson finds himself in some lofty company this week. His new album, In Between Dreams, debuts on the Billboard sales chart at #3. He will be this weekend's musical guest on Saturday Night Live. And Johnson has mapped out an extensive North American tour for later in the year. After a handful of overseas and festival gigs, he will head out on his own headlining tour beginning August 1 in Houston and wrapping on September 17 in Toronto.Rapper/actor Bow Wow is becoming the latest Hip Hop star to get his own sitcom. The WB has picked up the pilot for Bow, which will follow him as he grows into adulthood from childhood stardom. Bow Wow just turned 18 today. Reportedly he will be dropping the "Wow" from his name and just going by Bow in the future.
A new DVD following the long-awaited recording of Brian Wilson's SMiLE album will see release on May 24. Billboard reports it will be a two-disc set, with the first disc including a Showtime documentary on the record as well as four new interviews with Wilson. The second disc will include the record itself in 5.1 surround sound, along with documentary outtakes and live performances of five SMiLE songs.
The Mars Volta made an impressive debut on the Billboard sales chart this week, with their sophomore album Frances The Mute landing at #4. As previously reported, the band will kick off a North American tour beginning in San Diego on April 22.
Live is presently working on new material for their seventh studio album. The Pennsylvania band hopes to release the new record by year's end.
Jason Mraz will release his next album, the cleverly titled Mr. A-Z, on August 23. MTV.com reports the first single, "Wordplay," will land at radio in late April. Mraz will be on tour this spring, playing mostly colleges.
Also touring this spring will be Moby, whose new album Hotel lands in stores on March 22. Four days later, he will headline the Ultra Music Festival 7 in Miami, then kick off his own headlining tour on April 11 in Norfolk.
