Coldplay's long-awaited third album, X&Y, will arrive in stores on June 7. Singer Chris Martin recently explained the thought process behind the record's title, and no, it does not have to do with chromosomes. "X and Y is the mathematical formula used when you don't know the answer,” Martin told Insideonline, “But, it's also like black and white, or hope and despair, or optimism and pessimism. Everywhere you look there's a tension of opposites."Martin also explained that the slight delay in the release of X&Y was due to the band not being satisfied with the music yet, but it affected their label's stock price and even cost them a bonus. "Deadlines be damned,” he said. “It was all to do with fiscal years and shareholders anyway. Once we forgot about the money we were free to push ourselves to the very limits and make the best album possible."
As previously reported, Coldplay is plotting out a major world tour, set to visit 40 North American cities between July and September.
