MTV Launches Broadband Video And Music Site
April 6, 2005

MTV has released a beta version of a new Web site, called Overdrive, that promises to deliver high quality video content to a broadband audience.  The site features content ranging from music videos and live performances to news, movie previews and trailers to MTV show previews and other special content.  MTV will also draw much of the content from MTV.com and from their slate of channels and original programming.  The site currently includes shows such as Inferno II, Viva La Bam, Punk'd, and Meet The Barkers

The video and content play using Macromedia Flash and Overdrive offers users the ability to download new video software for improved performance.  The site is supported with static advertisements that rotate near the video window and commercials, adapted for the Web, that play between segments.

The launch of Overdrive follows an announcement at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that MTV had created a partnership with Microsoft.  An exclusive beta testing environment, complete with a feedback mechanism, is currently available www.mtv.com/overdrive.
