Students at the University of Illinois were surprised on Monday to have a substitute teacher in their music composition class, especially since the substitute was Sting. MTV cameras followed the singer and his current backing band, who performed "Message In A Bottle" and took questions from the class. According to Reuters, he ended the class by jamming with students on "Every Breath You Take." The entire class was filmed for an upcoming mtvU show called Stand In. Sting is of course no stranger to the classroom, having been a teacher in his pre-Police days.The White Stripes have expanded their May tour from three dates in Mexico to include a run of concerts throughout South America. The duo, whose new single "Blue Orchid" hit radio earlier this week, will perform in Guatemala, Panama, Columbia, Chile, Argentina, Buenos Aires and Brazil through late May and early June. Their new album, Get Behind Me Satan, arrives in stores on June 7.
Former American Idol winner Ruben Studdard is hard at work on his third album, which he tells MTV.com will be an R&B record. His last release, I Need An Angel, was a Gospel album. He revealed he had recently worked on some new material with Mario Winans and says, "We're just looking for the best songs, and everybody's really working really hard to make it a great album."
Bryan Ottoson, guitarist for Metal band American Head Charge, was found dead on Tuesday in the band's tour bus. The cause of Ottoson's death has not yet been announced. The band has been on tour with Mudvayne, Life Of Agony and Bloodsimple.
New Order will make their first U.S. television appearance ever when they perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC next Wednesday, April 27. Their new album, Waiting For The Siren's Call, hits stores one day earlier, on April 26.
Billy Idol will hop aboard this year's Vans Warped Tour for seven dates in July. This year's version of the annual Punk Rock festival begins in Columbus, OH on June 18.
Jason Mraz has nabbed the opening slot on Alanis Morissette's upcoming acoustic tour, which kicks off June 7 in Toronto. Mraz's cleverly-titled new album Mr. A-Z arrives in stores on July 26.
