Popular Apple news site ThinkSecret.com is reporting that the company will unveil the mobile phone version of its iTunes store as early as this June. Currently titled iTunes Mobile 1.0, the service has been in development in conjunction with Motorola since last year. The debut of the phone has been pushed back in recent months, apparently at the request of phone service providers.
According to a recent report in Business Week, cell providers such as Sprint, Verizon and Cingular are planning to launch their own rival music download services by the end of the year. These services would download a song directly into your phone and charge between $2-3 per song. The Motorola/iTunes phone would require that a song be bought on your computer for Apple's standard .99 cost, then uploaded into a compatible phone. The Motorola phone is still expected to debut by the end of the summer.
In other iTunes news, ThinkSecret reports that version 4.8 of the program will released in the next two weeks. The latest upgrade improves some security features and other small fixes.
