 Andre 3000
| OutKast's André 3000 has agreed to star in a modern-day musical film. Variety reports that Avenue Q writer Jeff Whitty will pen the script, and André will compose original music for the score. The movie does not yet have a name, but Dre will play someone "with magical powers, who comes into the lives of a family," Variety said. Dre was most recently seen in the John Travolta movie Be Cool, and he will appear next in an HBO movie formerly known as My Life In Idlewild, co-starring his OutKast partner Big Boi.
Coldplay continues to announce club dates in advance of the release of X&Y. In addition to yesterday's announcement of two "buzz gigs" on May 4 in San Francisco and May 6 in Chicago, another has been added on May 11 in Toronto. MTV.com says there is an additional buzz gig scheduled for May 13, but details on where it will happen are not confirmed. The band will hit New York during the week of May 16 for an appearance on a yet-to-be-determined major television program, and they will tape an episode of VH1's Storytellers at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Fans can try to win tickets to the VH1 taping by visiting coldplay.com/competitions. Meanwhile, the band just shot a video for the first single, "Speed Of Sound," with director Mark Romanek (Jay-Z, Johnny Cash).
Doves have been forced to postpone the beginning of their North American tour due to a throat ailment that is effecting singer Jimi Goodwin. The tour was to begin at the Coachella festival this Friday. All dates from Coachella through May 13 in Chicago have been postponed, and the trek will now begin on May 14 in Detroit. "I've been told to rest my vocals for two to three weeks," wrote Goodwin on the band's Web site. "Coachella aside, it's postponement, not cancellation! We are already tentatively re-scheduling. We're truly gutted but it's got to be right long term."
