After launching the world's first podcast-programmed radio station - KYCY-AM/San Francisco - in May, Infinity Broadcasting is following suit with nine of its AM News outlets. Beginning in July with WINS/New York, Infinity will offer free daily podcasts of varying lengths offering the day's top local and national news, sports, business and entertainment headlines, along with weather and traffic updates. The podcasts will also include content developed exclusively for download. This comes on the heels of online streaming of these stations, which began in March.
"Podcasting, while relatively new, is being adapted by more and more users everyday and is a perfect complement to our business model," said Infinity Chairman and CEO Joel Hollander, in annoucing the initiative.
"In the midst of celebrating our 40th anniversary, we began streaming around the world," added Infinity VP All-News Programming and WINS PD Mark Mason. "We now look forward to yet another distribution platform designed to inform and entertain busy New Yorkers on the go."
Other Infinity News outlets include WCBS/New York, KFWB/Los Angeles, KNX/Los Angeles, WBBM/Chicago, KCBS/San Francisco, KYW/Philadelphia, WBZ/Boston and WWJ/Detroit.
