The RIAA has announced its Gold and Platinum certifications for August and September. Nas' untitled ninth album went Gold, giving the rapper his fifth Gold record. Danity Kane's "Damaged," and "Superstar" from Lupe Fiasco, both surpassed one million downloads by September, earning Platinum single status. Earning Gold singles in September were Estelle, Jason Mraz, Yael Naim and Flyleaf. Flo Rida's "Low" went 4X Platinum, as the ringtone for the hit song went triple Platinum.In August, Coldplay's hit record Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends was certified Platinum. Rise Against's Sufferer And Witness album was certified Gold. Madonna's single "4 Minutes" was certified double-Platinum as a digital single, while "Hung Up" was also certified Platinum. Due to their digital availability, six Red Hot Chili Peppers hit singles also received Gold and Platinum certifications in August.
In September and August combined, the RIAA awarded a total of 53 digital singles, 34 albums and two ringtones.
