| AC/DC Plays "Ice" Breaker In Scranton |
 |
October 27, 2008

| On Sunday night in Scranton/Wilkes Barre, PA, AC/DC's "Rock & Roll Train" derailed and came crashing right through their stage set, giving fans a little taste of the spectacle that will highlight the group's first world tour in almost eight years. About 3,000 contest winners, radio and record label professionals witnessed the band's dress rehearsal at the Wachovia Arena, as AC/DC will kick off their tour at the venue on Tuesday night. But even for a dress rehearsal, AC/DC went full throttle with a set that was chock full of hits as well as two new songs from Black Ice.
They opened with the new single, "Rock & Roll Train," as lights flashed, smoke billowed and the giant locomotive appeared from the back of the stage to roaring applause. The band then went right into the classics like "Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be," "Back In Black," "Dirty Deeds" and "Thunderstruck" before the signature giant bell was lowered for "Hells Bells" and 61-year-old singer Brian Johnson swung from the rope looking like he hasn't aged at all.
Angus Young was of course dressed in his school boy uniform, and his age did not seem to affect him either as he ran around the stage delivering one fist-pumping guitar riff after another. The band served up an electrifying version of "TNT" as fire balls shot from the train wreckage behind them, and Johnson strolled down a cat walk into the middle of the arena floor, shaking hands with sweaty and star-struck audience members. Later, as the screens behind the band showed a photo montage of Young in his more youthful days, the guitarist stripped off his shirt and burst into a scathing guitar solo at the end of "Let There Be Rock." He then ran down the cat walk to a small circular stage in the middle of the arena floor and the stage slowly rose up over the crowd as his solo continued.
AC/DC ended the 75-minute set with an encore of "Highway To Hell" and "For Those About to Rock," complete with booming cannons firing off explosions. While the dress rehearsal set did seem short, it is reportedly only a portion of what the band will play on the actual tour. As previously announced, hungry fans have been snapping up tickets for the Black Ice tour at a record pace, forcing additional shows to be added in Chicago, Los Angeles and Oakland. Vancouver’s General Motors Place sold out in four minutes, which is a record for that venue, and San Antonio fans purchased more tickets in one day for AC/DC than for any other artist in that market’s history. Meanwhile, tickets for Toronto’s Rogers Centre sold faster than any stadium concert in the venue’s history.
The following is the complete set list from Sunday's dress rehearsal:
