Another Witness In Biggie Trial Changes His Story
June 23, 2005

Notorious B.I.G.

After one informant who played a big role in the murder investigation of Notorious B.I.G. admitted that his story was "all hearsay," a witness in the civil suit filed by Biggie's family against the city of Los Angeles delivered another blow to the family today. Kevin Hackie, a former Death Row Records bodyguard and onetime FBI informant, was called to the stand in the wrongful death suit to testify that former LAPD Officer David A. Mack worked in a "covert capacity" for Death Row Records. The testimony was supposed to support the theory that Mack conspired with Death Row head Suge Knight to have Biggie killed.

But on the stand, Hackie denied ever making that statement, which was contained in a June 6, 2004, sworn declaration.
"I didn't put it in there," Hackie testified, according the the Los Angeles Times. The newspaper also said that U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper has ordered family members to prove that Mack arranged the killing before they can proceed with their suit. Mack has denied any involvement in the crime, and Hackie was the prime witness linking Mack to the other alleged co-conspirators. However, Hackie also denied saying that Mack had special access to "numerous Death Row functions" reserved for Knight's close associates. He told the jury that those events were actually large functions attended by hundreds of people.

Wallace family lawyers also called former Police Chief Bernard C. Parks in an attempt to show that the LAPD covered up Biggie's murder, but Parks testified that he was not aware of specific leads, says the Times.
