More than a dozen female recording artists – including super stars like Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Melissa Etheridge, Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, Leona Lewis, LeAnn Rimes and Carrie Underwood – have joined together for the song “Just Stand Up,” a new charity single in support of Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C). SU2C is a new initiative to raise philanthropic dollars for accelerating ground-breaking cancer research.
The song was produced by Antonio "L.A." Reid and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds and marks their first creative reunion on record in nearly two decades. "Just Stand Up" will be released to radio and will be available to purchase exclusively on iTunes starting September 2.
Furthermore, an all-star television performance of the song will take place live on Friday, September 5 (8 p.m. EST and PST) when ABC, CBS and NBC simultaneously devote one hour of commercial-free prime time to this nationwide event. In addition to performances by those artists, the Stand Up To Cancer special will feature stars who will perform as well as present filmed content giving viewers insight into cancer. Celebrities confirmed for the broadcast (both for personal appearances or answering telephone calls) include Jennifer Aniston, Christina Applegate, Lance Armstrong, Abigail Breslin, Josh Brolin, David Cook, Katie Couric, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kirsten Dunst, Elizabeth Edwards, Jon Favreau, America Ferrera, Charles Gibson, Neil Patrick Harris, Salma Hayek, Scarlett Johansson, Christina Ricci, Meryl Streep, Hilary Swank, Charlize Theron, Forest Whitaker, Reese Witherspoon and many more. |

Sheryl Crow is teaming up with Rock The Vote to get Americans registered to vote for the 2008 election. Crow is currently offering a free download of her song "Gasoline" to anyone who logs onto the Rock the Vote Web site or anyone on the group’s mailing list. Also, as a part of Rock the Vote’s voter registration drive, Crow will give a digital copy of her newest album Detours to the first 50,000 people who get three friends registered to vote. "I have been involved with Rock the Vote since its inception and proud of the work they have done. There are such critical issues facing our country, from high gas prices to climate change that we need to do more then just register to vote, we need to get our friends registered too," said Sheryl Crow. "We are thrilled to partner with Sheryl Crow to register young voters," said Heather Smith, Executive Director, Rock the Vote. "Bringing together music and politics is core to Rock the Vote's mission. Working with Sheryl, we can reach out to her fans and encourage them to register and encourage their friends, family and co-workers to do the same." Crow, who has advocated for political issues in the past, suggests that more musicians should use their music to promote issues that affect Americans. "There was healthy competition among artists to create art that was commercial and political at the same time," Crow told Billboard.com. "Our music [now] is not representing the times -- at least not socially and politically. Or maybe we're just distracted." Rock the Vote hope to have registered 2 million voters by November.
