 Jennifer Hudson
| Chicago police have arrested the estranged husband of Jennifer Hudson's sister for the October 24 shooting deaths of her mother, brother and nephew. William Balfour was originally a "person of interest" in the slayings but is now reportedly the prime suspect. Police went to the Illinois' Stateville Correctional Center, where Balfour has been detained since two days after the murders, to arrest him. "He is awaiting formal charges for three counts of murder," a police spokesman told E! News. "There likely will be a press conference once there are formal charges against him." Defense attorney Joshua Kutnick told reporters that his client is innocent. "He vehemently denies that he is guilty in this case," Kutnick said. "Any evidence pointing to Mr. Balfour is not even thin. It is very, very weak."
Is a Creed reunion in the works? Billboard reports that negotiations are under way for "a lucrative 2009 reunion tour" for the platinum-selling rockers, who split in 2004. While frontman Scott Stapp's solo career has stalled, the rest of the band formed Alter Bridge with singer Myles Kennedy, who have released two records and toured steadily. Kennedy has been the subject of speculation as a possible stand-in for Robert Plant on a tour with the members of Led Zeppelin.
If you haven't had an opportunity to see Metallica on their current tour, rest assured that you will probably get your chance. Drummer Lars Ulrich expects the band to be on the road until 2010. "We’re booked up through August of next year, and right now we’re sort of laying out Fall of ‘09 and the Spring of ‘10," he told Rolling Stone, adding the quip, "We’re waiting for a few other countries to be actually formalized as nations so we can be the first band in. We’re also waiting for the polar caps to stabilize so we can go play there. There’s talk about some other planets too."
The soundtrack to the Notorious B.I.G. biopic, Notorious, will be released by Biggie's former recording home of Bad Boy Records, according to MTV News. Although most of the performers and producers are still being confirmed, Jay-Z contributed the track "Brooklyn (We Go Hard)," produced by Kanye West and featuring Santogold. The soundtrack is due in stores on January 13, and the movie is slated for release January 16.Beyoncé and her sister Solange will team up for Hope For The Holidays, a benefit concert that will be filmed in Houston on December 9 and air on Fuse starting December 21. The Knowles sisters' concert will benefit the Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund to aid Texas victims of Hurricane Ike through the Survivor Foundation, a Knowles family charity helping people in need. While recent comments from Mark Hoppus led to speculation that a Blink-182 reunion could happen, drummer Travis Barker told TMZ's cameras that it is not in the cards. "No," he says in a new video. "We're friends, though, everyone's getting along pretty good." As reported yesterday, Barker will perform on New Year's Eve with DJ AM for the first time since their plane crash in September.
Music Choice is now offering viewers Most Demanded, The Music Choice Video On Demand Awards. The awards shows, hosted by Jessica and Janelle Martinez of Prima J, are available to watch in four parts on Music Choice On Demand throughout December. The shows celebrates the top music videos of the year as determined by viewers, and the Most Demanded Artist of the Year was Chris Brown while the Most Demanded Video of the Year was Lil’ Wayne's "Lollipop." My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way's comic book The Umbrella Academy is reportedly on the "fast track" to the silver screen. Deadline Hollywood reports that Way and Dark Horse Comics have inked a deal with Universal to bring Way's characters to the movies. The 2009 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival will be held June 11-14, 2009 at its regular location of Manchester, TN. The lineup will not be announced until early next year. British second-wave Ska icons The Specials will reunite for a 2009 30th anniversary tour of the U.K. Though founding member Jerry Dammers is expected to sit out, the rest of the band's classic lineup will participate and tour together for the first time in years. Eight shows have been announced for next April and May, though no plans to come to North America have been announced. Singer/songwriter Neko Case will release a new studio album, Middle Cyclone, on March 3. Her first album since 2006 features a slew of guest appearances, according to Billboard. In addition to her fellow members of The New Pornographers, Middle Cyclone also includes contributions from M. Ward, Garth Hudson of The Band and members of Calexico, Los Lobos and others.
