 Lil Wayne
| Lil Wayne has delayed the release date of his rock album, Rebirth, from April 7 to May 19. The video for the album's first single, "Prom Queen," has already been shot and should be released soon, according to MTV News. Meawnhile, Weezy has mapped out some more dates for his I Am Music tour with T-Pain, Keri Hilson, Gym Class Heroes and Gorrilla Zoe. The new shows run from March 17 in Providence to March 31 in Salt Lake City. In other tour news, Wayne is being sued by a Rochester concert promoter after canceling three shows in the city. According to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Lil Wayne did not show up for an October performance at the Blue Cross Arena, claiming the sound system was not satisfactory. Promoter Ed Strickland re-scheduled the event for December 6, but the rapper cancelled again. A third show was booked for January 21, but Strickland says he received an e-mail at 12:17 a.m. on January 19 cancelling that performance as well due to "band logistics." Strickland is seeking $1.3 million in damages.
Jane's Addiciton bassist Eric Avery wrote a blog on the band's Web site explaining their decision to reunite, record and play some shows with Nine Inch Nails. "We spoke of not wanting to go do a bloated version of something we had done a long time ago," wrote Avery. "That the only way to go forward was to take it back... way back to the beautiful dark spirit that got the whole story started. Get in fighting shape. Play some small clubs. Try to write some new material." He went on to say that the idea of writing and recording some new Jane's songs with the help of Trent Reznor is what excited him about the project. "Nine Inch Nails. Jane's Addiction. Original Lollapalooza. It makes perfect conceptual sense," he wrote. "Nine Inch Nails will challenge us nightly to bring out our best. I consider it a challenge of the best kind. We will finish on our feet or die trying."Kings Of Leon hope to follow up their U.S. breakthrough album Only By The Night with a new record in the fall of 2010. Guitarist Matthew Followill told the BBC their next album could be "a little grungier" with a target of late next year. Singer/guitarist Caleb Followill added, "I think we are definitely considering doing something that people aren't gonna expect from us."
Stevie Wonder will be honored at the White House on February 25 as this year’s recipient of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. President Obama, a self-professed huge Stevie fan, will present the Gershwin Prize to Wonder. Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Mary Mary, will.i.am and more will perform at the event, which will air as a special on PBS the following day.
Leonard Cohen will embark on his first U.S. tour in 15 years starting on April 2 in Austin, TX. The tour is set to wrap on June 2 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre near Denver, CO. On March 31, Columbia Records will release Cohen's Live In London, a chronicle of the singer/songwriter/poet's historic July 17, 2008 concert at London's O2 arena. INXS has decided to part ways with their latest lead singer, JD Fortune, and a major announcement about the band's future will made in the next few weeks, according to Australia's Herald Sun. "The members are scattered all around the globe at the moment," band spokeswoman Chrissy Camp said. "But I have tracked one of them down, and he's told me they will be putting out a statement about their future in the next couple of weeks." It is unclear if that means INXS will seek a new singer or simply call it a day.
Electric Light Orchestra bassist Kelly Groucutt has passed away at the age of 62 after suffering a heart attack, reports NME. Groucutt joined ELO in time to record their 1975 album Face the Music. After he left the group in 1983, he often played with spin-off bands such as The Orchestra, Orkestra and ELO Part 2.
