Quick Hits: Faith No More, Papa Roach, 50 Cent, Kevin Rudolph, Jane's Addiction, NME Awards, Maynard James Keenan, AFI, Def Leppard, Pylon
February 26, 2009

Faith No More bassist Bill Gould released a statement to Blabbermouth.net in order to set the facts straight about the band's European reunion tour. The lineup will include Gould, singer Mike Patton, drummer Mike Bordin, keyboardist Roddy Bottum and guitarist Jon Hudson, who played on Faith No More's final album, 1997's Album of the Year. "During the entire 10 years that have passed since our decision to break up we've experienced constant rumors and requests from fans and promoters [to reunite]," said Gould. "Nevertheless, for whatever reason, none of us kept in regular touch, much less to discuss any possibilities of getting together. What's changed is that this year, for the first time, we've all decided to sit down together and talk about it. And what we've discovered is that time has afforded us enough distance to look back on our years together through a clearer lens and made us realize that through all the hard work, the music still sounds good, and we are beginning to appreciate the fact that we might have actually done something right. Meanwhile, we find ourselves at a moment in time with zero label obligations, still young and strong enough to deliver a kick-ass set, with enthusiasm to not only revisit our past but possibly add something to the present." So far the band has said they will tour only Europe with no plans to play in the U.S.

Papa Roach

In honor of their 10th anniversary with Dreamworks Records, Papa Roach will play two celebratory shows in New York and Los Angeles. Tickets are on sale for the March 4 show, when the rockers will hit the stage where they were first discovered - at the Troubador in L.A. Tickets are also on sale for their March 10 performance at the Blender Theater in Manhattan. Papa Roach’s sixth album, Metamorphosis, is due on March 24 in conjunction with their North American Tour, kicking off February 27 in Chicago.

In an interview on the Howard Stern Show on Wednesday, 50 Cent revealed that his new album, Before I Self Destruct, originally due out on February 3, will be pushed back even further. "They should expect Em's album to come out first," said the rapper. "[The single] 'Crack a Bottle' ... that song actually was recorded for my album, and it may make it to Em's record because his album's coming first. We might just record something new."

Singer/producer Kevin Rudolph has announced his first U.S. headlining tour, appropriately titled the Let It Rock Tour. Rudolph will be joined on stage by Hyper Crush, Cash Cash, The Audition and Go Crash Audio. "I’m excited to enter this new phase of my career where I’ll be able to roll across America with the energy and cooperation of all these great sponsors and thank fans for their tremendous support the best way I know how – with a great live show," says Rudolph. "We’ll be performing ‘Let It Rock’ and other songs from In The City the way I have envisioned doing it ever since I dreamed of getting into music. I can’t wait to hit each and every stage." The tour embarks on April 3 in Nashville, TN.

On April 21, Rhino Records will release A Cabinet of Curiosities, a limited edition box set of Jane's Addiction rarities that includes 30 unreleased tracks. The first disc will contain five songs recorded in 1986 during a session at Radio Tokyo studio in Venice, CA, and 11 demos from 1987. The second disc has more demos, unreleased live tracks and cover songs by Grateful Dead, The Stooges and Led Zeppelin, among others. Disc three will contain a December 1990 live show. The DVD in the set will house the documentary, Soul Kiss, which features the video for "Mountain Song" that was banned by MTV, a video for "City" and candid home movies of the band. The DVD also brings together six additional music videos as well as a trio of unreleased 1990 performances taped in Milan for MTV Italy.

The NME Shockwave Awards were handed out in London yesterday by the British music magazine, with a wide variety of artists honored as the Best and Worst of the past year. Oasis was named Best British Band, with The Killers named Best International Band. MGMT was named Best New Band while Muse was honored as Best Live Band. Muse singer Matt Bellamy was named Sexiest Male Artist and the band also won Best Album Artwork for the live CD/DVD HAARPKings Of Leon's Only By The Night won as Best Album. Haley Williams of Paramore won Sexiest Female Artist and The Cure were honored with the "Godlike Genius" award.

Tool singer Maynard James Keenan, who has a second career as a wine manufacturer, will soon have a documentary film about his wine-making efforts. The Pulse of Radio reports that the movie, about the efforts of Keenan and his partner Eric Glomski to establish a wine-making industry in Arizona's Verde Valley, is about to go into production. The film will be co-directed by Christopher Pomerenke and Ryan Page, the same team that made the music documentaries Moog and The Heart Is A Drum Machine. It will be filmed throughout this year, with a 2010 release expected.

A.F.I.

AFI have revealed that Crash Love is the title of their next album, which is set for release later this year on Interscope Records. The band was recently joined in the studio by contest winners who earned a chance to contribute backing vocals to the disc. AFI’s first confirmed show of 2009 is set for June 20 at Edgefest in Toronto.

Def Leppard will be touring this summer with fellow rockers Poison and Cheap Trick. Tickets to the 40-date tour go on sale March 6, with a special March 4 sale for Citi Card members. The Live Nation-produced tour will kick off June 23 in Camden, NJ.

Randy Bewley, guitarist for influential Athens, GA band Pylon, passed away yesterday from a heart attack he suffered on Monday. Bewley co-founded Pylon in 1978 and along with The B-52's, the group paved the way for R.E.M. and the rest of the Athens college rock scene of the early '80s. Michael Stipe said in a statement, "We are so very saddened to hear the news of Randy’s passing. Pylon have always been an inspired catalyst to R.E.M. and the Athens music and art scene, and beyond. Randy’s guitar playing and attitude was intensely unique, and his influence integral and profound; he will be greatly missed."
