99X Returns To The Atlanta FM Dial At 97.9
April 17, 2009

This morning (4/17), 16-year Modern Rock stalwart, Cumulus-owned WNNX (99X)/Atlanta returned to the airwaves at 97.9 FM. 99X had been broadcasting on the web and on Top 40 sister station WWWQ’s HD2 signal, with a promise from Cumulus to bring the legendary station back to the air as soon as a suitable FM signal could be procured. As of now, the station is broadcasting at 250 watts.

Cumulus Media Inc. EVP/COO John Dickey commented, "As the trusted custodian of the iconic 99X brand, Cumulus is thrilled to give Atlanta its musical soul back."

99X’s new life follows a pledge to listeners that they will be instantly familiar with the format, style and staff of the station. Atlanta native, BJ Kinard, will anchor afternoon drive and also maintains Program Director duties. "This is the station that made me want to get into radio. It’s a very exciting time for me and 99X," says Kinard. 99X station vet, Lewis, is the midday personality from 10am-3pm with Jillian as the night host 7pm to midnight. 99X is bringing back Organic X with Matt "Organic" Jones 7am to 1pm every Sunday.

Programs and features that will continue include Xposure, featuring new and breaking artists; Live X, live acoustic band performances in the 99X studio attended by listeners; "Freeloaders," a rewards program for listeners; and Unplugged in the Park, a Sunday night concert series including Organic X artists.
